Love that casts a widening pool of light – Day 13

“On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp — praise song for walking forward in that light.”

From the Inaugural poem by Elizabeth Alexander

The light she’s referring to is, as she says, the mightiest word: “What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light.”

I am struck and filled and overflowing with a sense of awe. This language, these things of which I’ve been thinking, feeling, teaching, writing – they’ve found an audience with the world.

Clearly I’m not the first to use these words. But I do often feel…well, that many consider me a bit of a…hippie-freak, or what others would call a heathen. I wouldn’t say I feel misunderstood, but I certainly don’t feel as though I’m swimming with a very big school of fish.

And by my nature, the sense of swimming against the crowds is fairly uncomfortable. And expressing any level of faith, let alone a strong one, using strong words, in public…well, it’s taken no small amount of courage, and faith (!), for me to do it.

I find myself choosing my words carefully when talking with “normal” people, catching myself when I begin to speak of a person’s energy, or the energy exchanges I so frequently witness within a given situation.

But Ms. Alexander did not filter her words for “normal” people.  She wrote and spoke them straight from her heart.

I’ve been thinking about this lately, before today’s events.  How can I ask to become more connected, when in the next breath I apologize for my connection? How can I invite openness, as a healer, to those healing powers that are not mine at all but are something much greater than me, and then in the next moment make a disclaimer about my openness?

In doing this, I’m holding myself back.  When I look at the people I most admire, they are the souls who know their inner light and do not attempt to dim it.  They do not worry that others around them may not understand.  They are the ones who let their light shine out of them just as brightly as it has come into them.  This is precisely why I so deeply admire them.

Today’s Inaugural Ceremony was steeped, for those who were listening, in the language of Spirit. As the President himself wisely noted, we need not split hairs about the name of this spirit: “For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers.”  No, we need only to invite that spirit into our daily lives.

We are on the brink, the brim, the cusp, as Ms. Alexander pointed out. I, for one, am ever-more committed to playing my part in bringing this deep, unearthly love, this widening pool of light, to the fore.

I will let my light shine, and I will not make apologies for it.

21 Days to 21 Minutes

So, here’s the deal. I’m about to start a journey. Want to join me?

The details are thus: for the next 21 days I will sit in silence for 21 minutes each day.

Here’s why:

“I know that I will benefit deeply from a regular practice of sitting in silence, of letting the boundaries of me dissolve.

As they go, I enter into sacred space, I merge myself with Source.  In this space I find peace, strength, love.  In this space my energy becomes centered.  In this space I deepen my gift as a healer.  In this space I improve my daily life.  In this space I take broad leaps toward my soul’s dreams.  In this space all things are possible.  The more time I spend here, the more magical my life becomes.

And as I emerge from this space, I carry with me the peace, strength, and love from which I was immersed.  From here, it moves to all that is around me – those who I touch directly and those who I will never meet.

I commit to this practice as a way of committing to soul.”

If you – or anyone you know – would like to join me on this journey, please do!  I will write about it daily, and I invite you to share your experiences on this blog too.

As we open ourselves, so too opens the world…

Ask me a Question…

I had a “hit” just now.  That’s what I call it when something comes to me out of nowhere and feels really, really right.

The “hit” is to start offering my energy-coaching sessions online.

In small snipits.

For free.

Kind of like a Dear Abby, but with an energetic twist.

Here’s how it will work:

You post a question/comment about your life.  This could be something about which you’re trying to gain clarity, or a decision you’re stumbling over, or a stuckness that you’re in and can’t seem to get out of.

And I will post you a reply.

These posts will be available for all to see – so feel free to omit names and details.  The reason?  This way every reader can slip into energy-alignment every single day, even if it’s just for the two minutes it takes to read our post.

So let’s get started.  Someone send me a question.  Many people send me a question!

And then – please – forward this link along to friends and family, so that we can share the wealth with more and more and more…

The Line between Good and Bad, Strong and Weak

Here’s an amazing book: “Power vs. Force” by David Hawkins. If you enjoy quantum physics and chaos theory, go out and buy the book today. Otherwise, here’s an overview. Through millions of trials, Hawkins and his colleagues established the dividing line between “good and evil.” Or better put, they found the difference between things that strengthen us and things that weaken us. They put a number to it: 200.

Anything above-200 gives us strength – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Anything below-200 weakens us in those same ways.

Above-200: Courage, Neutrality, Willingness, Acceptance, Reason, Love, Joy, Peace, and Enlightenment. Everything above-200 begins with trusting in things that are stronger than ourselves and our will. They involve a genuine sense of openness and compassion, and a willingness to bend and flow.

Below-200: Shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, and pride. These encapsulate such emotions as: desires to be richer, thinner, prettier, more successful; fear of losing a job, losing a loved one, losing our standing in our world, losing money; the fear of things going wrong, of not being perfect, of people being mad at us, of not being in control of things; raging fury, slow-boiling hostility, or general frustration; sarcasm, jealousy, competition, revenge, and a sense of always wanting or “needing” more.

(It makes you feels better just to read that first list, doesn’t it? See…it works!).

We literally make ourselves ill with below-200 things; we literally heal ourselves with above-200 things.

I’ve got news for you: almost without exception, television, movies, news, radio, and advertisements are below 200. That means that every day, when you turn on the news or read the paper or watch tv, you are willingly weakening yourself. There is an auto-immune response to this – it is a scientifically proven fact.

And it’s not just through those outlets. It’s in every thought you have, every interaction, every conversation. Whenever you are thinking/talking/listening to something below-200, you are injuring yourself.

On the upside, whenever you think/talk/listen to something above-200 you are strengthening yourself. This is why it is so crucial to make conscious choices about our thoughts, our conversations, our interactions, our “entertainment” outlets.

We’ve kind of known this, right? We want to be good people, or god-fearing people, or whatever you want to call it. But now there’s science behind it. There’s an observable, measurable cause-and-effect. It’s not just about going to church on Sundays, or praying once a day, or “doing the right thing” when you wan to feel moralistic. This stuff is happening every single moment of our lives.

The way you live your life everyday…

“The way you live your life every day is the way you live your life.” This, from Annie Dillard.

I’d like to add “who you are in every moment is who you are.”

This gets us smack dab into choice. As you choose each moment of thought and feeling, you are creating yourself, your life, your reality. And in the process, you’re creating energy that affects not just you – but everyone, everywhere.

If you’d like to see a better world, this is both the place to start and the place to end. It is the only place – that place inside your brain that chooses your thoughts.

Example? Say you’re nice to the guy pumping gas. Unbeknownst to you, he’d had a terrible day and was about to go to a bar and drink himself silly, and on his way home he was going to get in a car accident that would have ended up fatal to a mother of six, and her kids would have all ended up being raised by their mean aunt etc, etc, etc. But when you smiled kindly and said “thank you – have a good night” – something shifted inside him and he decided to go home instead of out to the bar. No car accident, no lost mother of six, no awful aunt etc, etc.

Sound far-fetched? It’s not – not at all. It’s the ripple effect, or the chaos theory. Everything is interrelated.

We never, ever know how our actions are going to impact another person, and what the ripple effect will be. In the end, and in every moment, the best we can do is to make choices, comments, actions, and feelings from our hearts.

This is how we create the New Vibe – how we reverse the energy of humanity from a downward spiral back towards a stronger, more positive, more healthy vibe.

Remember, the way you live your life every day is the way you live your life. Who you are in every moment is who you are. It’s your choice, every single time.

A New Vibe

I am writing a book. The book is about happiness. It’s about finding joy and contentment in the course of our everyday lives.

I am writing this book because I believe we are due – individually and collectively – for an energetic face lift. I’m calling this the New Vibe.

I believe we all want to be happier. We are all tired of the negativity we find around us and within us. But none of us knows quite what to do about it.

I’m writing this blog because I want to begin creating this New Vibe before the book is done.

The New Vibe is easy. It is based on two premises:

  1. Happiness is a choice. We are given this choice hundreds of times each day.

  2. Each time we choose positive over negative, expansive over restrictive, acceptance over judgment, we raise the energy of everyone around us. We become happier and the world becomes happier.

This is the single-most important thing we can do in our lives, in every day of our existence. As we make our choices, we create a New Vibe.

This blog is a point of inspiration, a gathering place, a reminder. I will do my best to keep it accessible, in philosophy and language, to anyone who has ever wanted to make a better Self and a better World.

Welcome to each of you, and thanks from my soul to yours. Please, pass this along.
